Texas Tech annually distributes over $12 million in scholarship money. Awards are made based on academic interest and achievement, financial need and community involvement.
NATIONAL MERIT FINALISTS. Recognition in the National Merit Competition is one of the highest honors awarded to high school students in the United States. We recognize this outstanding accomplishment with one of our top academic awards, the Presidential Plus Scholarship.

The Presidential Plus scholarship totals $63,500 ($12,700 per year for 5 years). If you are named a National Merit Finalist and you designate Texas Tech as your top choice for college, you will automatically receive this award. We also encourage you to apply for general scholarships and receive additional financial assistance.

Texas Tech is proud to offer one of the strongest merit scholarship programs among Big 12 universities. In recognition of hard work and academic success, students in the top 15% of their graduating class who earn a minimum 1200 SAT (math and critical reading portions only) or 26 composite ACT are guaranteed a merit based scholarship. Several of these are 5 year scholarships, which may be applied to a 5-year undergraduate program, or the first year of graduate school or law school at Texas Tech. Admitted students who meet the academic criteria automatically receive a scholarship offer, which should be accepted by May 1.

There is one application for all scholarships at Texas Tech (excluding merit- based scholarships). Complete the application for general scholarships when submitting the Texas Common Application for Admission. Many factors are considered including high school attended, major, county of residence, extra-curricular activities, leadership and financial need. Apply early – the deadline for scholarship applications is February 1.
