“Texas Tech is such a welcoming campus that it was so easy to meet friends and get involved. I went to Tech only knowing three people, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.”
A native of Alvin, Texas, Katie handles recruitment for the Northwest Houston Region. “Being from the Houston area, I find it easy to relate to students I talk with because I understand that it’s far from their hometowns. Sometimes students don’t know what the Red Raider spirit is all about until I share it with them.” She likes being able to talk with prospective students and parents about all of the exciting things going on in Lubbock and on campus.
Hometown:
Alvin, TX
Where did you go to college:
Texas Tech University
What was your major?
Public relations
While a student at Texas Tech, Katie was a staff writer for The Daily Toreador and La Ventana, Tech’s newspaper and yearbook, respectively. She was able to write stories, interview, and meet all kinds of really interesting people. She was a public relations major, which helped her gain real-life experience working on projects and campaigns in her classes.
Katie suggests going to all of the locally owned restaurants in Lubbock. When you don’t have any plans for the weekend, she suggests going with your friends to visit their hometowns. “Visiting friends’ hometowns was always something we liked to do on the weekends because you got to see places you might not normally visit.”
