“Lubbock is the perfect size. It is big enough that there is plenty to do, but small enough to where everyone is friendly and feels like home.”

Andrea Cheek is from Stephenville, TX and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Public Relations. She has worked at the Dallas/Ft. Worth Regional Center for over a year and loves seeing the students’ excitement when they are accepted to Texas Tech.

Andrea was born a Red Raider. Both of her parents are Tech alumni and were very supportive of the college while she grew up. “I chose to go to school there because I love the excitement and campus life of a Big XII school;” she said, “however, coming from a small town, Lubbock wasn’t too big and gave me that hometown feel.”

While getting her bachelor’s degree, Andrea was part of Alpha Phi Sorority, and became president of the sorority her senior year. “Through Alpha Phi, I made lifelong friends and I learned about other organizations on campus to get involved in,” she said. Her first job after graduation was working for the sorority’s international office and traveling to many different places across the United States.

One thing she wished she had known when she was a freshman at Tech was not to sign up for 8:00 a.m. classes, especially if you are not a morning person. “Wait until at least 9 a.m. or 10 a.m.,” she said.
