Jalys Mabry obtained a photocommunications degree at Texas Tech University through the College of Mass Communications. Her major allowed her to work closely with Texas Tech professor and official state photographer Wyman Meinzer.
One of the most pivotal moments of her her undergrad career occurred while taking a course with Meinzer at Texas Tech’s Junction campus — an experience she said forever changed her life. “That course was one of the best experiences I ever had,” she said. Texas Tech was also the place where her love for music photography developed, allowing her to apply photography concepts to the genre of music.

Not only does Jalys get to use her lifelong passion of promoting higher education in high schools in the Austin area, but living in Austin allows her to explore music photography, promote Texas Music by contributing to a website as a music + concert photographer, and explore the live music scene Austin has to offer. When not representing Texas Tech or taking photographs, you can usually find her spending time with her two year-old boxer, Rocker. She also loves hanging out at local eateries, shopping and “Keeping Austin Weird”. She has an unhealthy obsession with cowboy boots, crowns, Whole Foods, The Office, and Jersey Shore.
